Stonehenge Rebuilt As It Was In 3000 BC - MuseoPics Photographic Reconstruction Project
Travel back in time 5000 years and experince Stonehenge as it would have looked.
When I was putting together the new Prehistoric Standing Stone photo collections for MuseoPics, I started to wonder what Stonehenge (pictured today above) really looked like 5000 years ago. There are illustrated and computer graphics reconstructions, but I wanted to see a photo reconstruction using the actual sarsen stones from Stonehenge. As I had taken photos of Stonehenge from many angles and at different times of the day, I was able to choose stones at the right angle and create a reconstruction without obvious repetition of the stones. (see below)
How Stonehenge Looked 4000 Years Ago?
The end result in the photo above is different from how I thought Stonehenge would look probably because I am so used to seeing it in ruins. I think the photo reveals an elegant symmetry to the monument, and the textures of the real sarsen stones give it an organic feel than I had seen before in other reconstructions. I can see why our prehistoric ancestors went to all the trouble of selecting then dragging the stones from Marlborough. To me the design of Stonehenge seems to give it a connection between the ground and the sky, or maybe I have been too influenced by modern Druid speak. Either way I think the reconstruction is an interesting experiment and worth the time spent recreating it without any CGI effects. Hope you agree.
