Some of the greatest sacred devotions made out of stone are the great, and small, Christian churches, cathedrals and monasteries. For 2000 years Christians have been glorifying their god by building extraordinary buildings that pushed the boundaries or architectural engineering to the limits. For obvious reasons the best preserved art and buildings created by our ancestors were made out of stone. The better the stone the better the preservation. Most of what we know about our prehistoric ancestors was carved into or was made out of stone. Some of the most enigmatic and impressive structure built by prehistoric man were the great stone circles the British Isles and Brittany.
